Lycos is incorporating technology from Blinkx into its Web site to improve the portal’s video search capabilities.

Lycos’s decision to partner with Blinkx highlights the critical role that video search is playing among Web portals competing for visitors. Lycos and Blinkx will share revenue generated from the search results, the companies said Tuesday in a statement.

Currently, Lycos draws about 25 million visitors each month with its assortment of Web search service, e-mail and 5 million hours of video content. Lycos, whose videos include television clips, news and user-generated material, has faded in popularity as Google and Yahoo gain Web traffic.
