“Entourage” creator and executive producer Doug Ellin is discussing the future of actor Jeremy Piven, who plays the character Ari Gold on the show, and coincidentally was fired on last night’s episode.

In his weekly “Producer Shop Talk” briefing with TelevisionWeek Managing Editor Melissa Grego, Mr. Ellin also revealed who will play the agent that replaces the hypercompetitive Ari Gold.

Mr. Piven Sunday night took home an Emmy for best supporting actor in a comedy at the 58th Primetime Emmy Awards.

“People are asking how could we fire an Emmy winner,” Mr. Ellin said. “It was good timing and an ironic night to have those two things happen.”

Mr. Ellin explained why last night’s season finale episode, “Sorry, Ari,” was one of his favorites of this season. He also offered a sneak peak into a future episode.

As he had mentioned in last week’s Shop Talk, Mr. Ellin is still writing the final episode of this season which he hopes to complete in the next two days.

“Entourage” is set to return in March.
