ABC Giving Away 1 Million iPod Downloads

Disney-ABC Television Group will offer 1 million free downloads of last season’s finales of its series “Desperate Housewives,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Lost” as part of a promotion with the Apple Web site iTunes designed to allow viewers to catch up on the shows before the new season premieres.

From Sept. 14 through Oct. 4, users can go to ABC’s Web site and click on a “Million Hit Lowdown” that takes them directly to the iTunes store. Once there, users have a choice of downloading one of the three season finales. In addition, they can also get unlimited free downloads of all three highlight specials, “Desperate Housewives: Time to Come Clean,” “Getting Into Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Lost Survival Guide.”

“By offering hit ABC programming on multiple platforms, we’re ensuring that the largest audience possible is able to view these series,” said Albert Cheng, executive VP of digital media for Disney-ABC Television Group in a statement. “Working together with iTunes, we’ve not only been able to provide viewers with choice in terms of when and how they view our shows, but have also increased overall awareness of the ABC brand and our quality content.”

All three of the shows are produced by ABC’s sister company, Touchstone Television.

The special highlight shows for each of the three series feature commentary from show producers and the editorial staff at People magazine and Entertainment Weekly. The three specials are designed to introduce each of the shows to new viewers.

Later in September, episodes from the upcoming season of “Grey’s Anatomy,” as well as new episodes of “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives,” will be available for purchase for $1.99 per episode on iTunes the day after they are broadcast on ABC. Episodes from the first and second seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy” also will be available.
