CBS Wins Week With ‘Katie Couric’

The debut week of “CBS Evening News With Katie Couric” won the week ended Sept. 8 in total viewers and adults 25 to 54, despite declines from the show’s premiere Tuesday through Friday.

For the first time in more than five years, CBS was No. 1 for the week in the network news race in total viewers, garnering an average of 10.2 million viewers. NBC was second with 7.1 million, followed by ABC with 6.9 million.

In adults 25 to 54, “CBS Evening News” scored a 2.8 rating for the week, with NBC and ABC tied at 1.9.

Compared with the same week last year, CBS was up 58 percent in viewers and up 65 percent in adults 25 to 54.

Ratings for “CBS Evening News” did drop from day to day last week, with the show attracting 13.6 million viewers and a 3.9 rating in adults 25 to 54 for Tuesday’s premiere. By Friday CBS scored 7.4 million viewers and a 2.0 in adults 25 to 54. Even with the drops, CBS remained the top evening news in both demographics on Friday.
