Putting the Pedal to the Metal for ‘Jim’

Jim Belushi is open to doing personal appearances to promote his sitcom “According to Jim” as it gears up for its off-network syndication run. On Sept. 3 he reached out to tens of thousands of fans at the California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., when he sang with his band Jim Belushi and the Sacred Hearts before the Sony HD 500 Nextel Cup Series race.

But he did more than belt out a few tunes. Distributor Buena Vista TV sponsored car No. 66, a Haas CNC racing Chevrolet covered in a special paint design promoting the “Jim” syndie launch. Along with the sponsorship Mr. Belushi got to be an honorary race official for the day and take part in a closed-door pre-race drivers meeting along with Jeff Green, driver of the No. 66 car.

Instead of 500, the key number for the day was 25,000-that was the number of free “Jim” compilation DVDs Buena Vista handed out as part of it promotion. “Jim” premieres in syndication Sept. 18.
