‘Rachael’ Scores Big in Debut

King World’s new talk show “Rachael Ray” had the highest-rated debut Monday for a new first-run syndicated talk strip since the premiere of “Dr. Phil” in 2002.

“Rachael” scored a weighted metered market average 2.8 household rating and 9 share in 55 metered markets, according to Nielsen Media Research. That was up 17 percent over its lead-in (2.4/8) and 33 percent above its year-ago time period average (2.1/7). “Dr. Phil” debuted in 2002 with a 5.3 rating and 14 share.

“Rachael” ranked either first or second in its time period in 28 of its 55 metered markets.

NBC Universal’s “The Megan Mullally Show” debuted Monday with a 1.2 rating and 4 share in 45 metered markets, down 8 percent from its lead-in (1.3/4) and down 14 percent from its year-ago time-period average (1.4/5). It was the best talk debut of the 2006-07 season, second only to “Rachael.”
