Wisecracking Mothers Wanted

Yo momma’s so funny she made me laugh when she spanked me.
Mother jokes probably aren’t big with contestants on Nick at Nite’s “Funniest Mom in America”; after all, this ain’t MTV. And to win, they’d probably have to come up with a routine that’s a million times wittier.
Nick at Nite is gearing up for a third season of “Funniest Mom,” which will debut in April.
The six-part series follows moms as they go from auditions to regional competitions and advance to the semifinals. In this year’s competition, the 12 semifinalists will be joined by another contestant picked by visitors to the network’s Web site. Users will be able to choose either one of the moms shown auditioning on TV or someone who submits a tape online.
Six of the semifinalists will compete in a series of comedy challenges. The winner gets $50,000 and the chance to host an evening of programming on Nick at Nite.
Last year’s winner, Rubi Nicholas, was from a suburb of Denver and made jokes about being a Pakistani Muslim. “Every time my daughter leaves her Barbie Jeep in someone else’s driveway, they call the bomb squad,” was one of her winning quips.
Nick at Nite will hold auditions in comedy clubs around the country during November. Locations include New York, Los Angeles and Chicago as well as Omaha, Neb.; Dayton, Ohio; and Portland, Maine.
The show is one of the original series Nick at Nite created to supplement its lineup of classic comedies, which includes “The Cosby Show,” “Full House” and “Roseanne,” which stars its own funny homemaker.
