The pending Fox Business Channel appears to have picked up a commitment representing 9 million to 12 million-plus subscribers from cable leader Comcast.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that a carriage agreement has been reached, although the green light has not been given to launch the channel that has been a gleam in the eye of News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch for some time.

As recently as last month, Mr. Murdoch and News Corp. executives have indicated that if distribution of 30 million subscribers could be lined up, the channel will be a go by mid-2007. DirecTV also is expected to commit between 12.5 million and 15 million-plus subscribers.

Spokespersons representing Comcast and Fox News declined to comment on the record about the report.
