Football Gives NBC Biggest Audience Sunday Night

“Sunday Night Football” rebounded Sunday night to give NBC a ratings victory.

The New Orleans Saints vs. Dallas Cowboys match earned a 7.5 rating among adults 18 to 49, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research figures. That was enough to put NBC over the top for the evening, with CBS coming in second, ABC third, Fox fourth and The CW fifth.

After “60 Minutes” (4.0), CBS aired the season finale of “The Amazing Race” (4.0), which was up 18 percent versus last season’s May finale, but down 18 percent versus last December. “Cold Case” (3.7) and “Without a Trace” (3.6) followed, and were slightly below their season averages.

ABC aired a two-hour “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” special (2.3) followed by “Brothers & Sisters” (4.0), which hit a season low, lacking its usual “Desperate Housewives” lead-in.

Fox aired its lineup of comedies, with “The Simpsons” (4.1) as the high-water mark for the evening.
