If you can’t get enough of E! Entertainment’s “The E! True Hollywood Story,” the network is getting ready to bring you “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” a series that promises even more real-life stories of foul play, career failure and untimely death.
“E! has consistently set the bar for excellence in the celebrity documentary genre and ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ is no exception,” said Lisa Berger, executive VP of original programming and series development at E!. “‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ delves deep inside the most captivating stories of ill-fated rising stars in a way that no one else has.”
The series is scheduled to launch Jan 22 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Among the celebrities whose stories are told during eight half-hour episodes are:
* Niki and Krissy Taylor, the supermodel sisters. Krissy died suddenly at 17 from a rare heart condition and Niki went into rehab to treat an addiction to pain killers and later was in a near-fatal car accident. Niki is now back modeling.
* Chris Penn, the younger brother of Sean Penn, who struggled with booze, drugs and excessive weight and died at 40 from an enlarged heart.
* Christine Chubbuck, a rising young TV news anchor with a history of depression. Despite a promising career, she shot herself on live TV in 1974.
* Leif Garrett, the teen idol whose career came to a halt after a car accident he caused left his friend paralyzed and a negligence lawsuit ensued.
* James Frey, the author of “A Million Little Pieces,” who was at the height of literary stardom until it was revealed that his memoir was full of lies.
* Lauryn Hill, whose first solo album sold 12 million copies, who broke down during an “MTV Unplugged” performance, saying, “I’m crazy and deranged … I’m emotionally unstable.”
* Asia Carrera, who performed as a pianist at Carnegie Hall at the age of 15, then married and became a porn star. Her husband died in a car accident, leaving her to raise two kids by herself.
