Comcast to Add Nat Geo, A&E, Versus/Golf

Comcast began adding a trio of new HD channels to its service and expects to double its HD On Demand content by the end of the year.
The country’s largest cable operator will add National Geographic HD, A&E HD and the recently announced Versus/Golf Channel combination network, a spokesman confirmed.
Nat Geo and A&E have already started rolling out in some markets, with Versus/Golf to be added soon.
Market-by-market launches are also continuing for Universal HD and MHD, which were previously announced.
In addition, Comcast plans to double its HD VOD content from 100 to 200 hours by the end of the year.
In the past few years Comcast has been an industry leader in its embrace of HD. But if DirecTV fulfills its recently announced plans to add a whopping 100 HD channels by the end of 2007, Comcast and other cable operators will have some serious bandwidth hurdles to leap in order to remain competitive.
Most operators offer about a dozen national HD channels in addition to local stations, though the average is constantly increasing.
