“American Idol” returned stronger than ever Tuesday night, obliterating the competition with a 15.7 rating among adults 18 to 49.
That’s up slightly from last year’s 15.3 rating, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research figures.
The two-hour premiere gave Fox an easy win for the night, with the network earning a higher average than nearly every other network combined.
In second place was CBS with “NCIS” (3.8) and “The Unit” (3.1).
NBC was fourth with “Dateline” (1.9), a “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” repeat (2.0) and “Law & Order: SVU” (4.7).
ABC was fourth with a two-hour premiere of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (1.7) and “Boston Legal” (2.8).
The CW had repeats of “Gilmore Girls” and “Veronica Mars” and averaged a 0.6.
