CBS Interactive appointed former CBSSportsLine.com Senior VP and General Manager Stephen E. Snyder chief operating officer.

Mr. Snyder will oversee all operations of the newly created division’s Web sites (CBS.com, CBSNews.com, CBSSportsLine.com, among others), as well as its support functions. He will report to CBS Interactive President and CEO Quincy Smith.

“Steve not only runs the largest and fastest-growing interactive business at CBS, but he is a proven, successful operator,” Mr. Smith said in Tuesday’s announcement of the personnel move. “Given his technical background, Steve will also play an integral role in ensuring that our platform integrates with our current and future partners so that we take advantage of next generation applications and interfaces for our content and audiences.”

A successor to Mr. Snyder is expected to be named soon at CBSSportsLine.com, where he helped produce a record number of site users, as well as subscription and advertising revenues. He joined SportsLine.com in January 1998 as director of infrastructure engineering when the company acquired GolfWeb, where he was director of site development.

He is a former launch team mission specialist at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Co., where he also was a system simulation group leader for a team of engineers who designed and developed a National Missile Defense “War Games” simulation for use by the United States Army Strategic Defense Command.
