VNU, owner of Nielsen Media Research, is changing its name to the Nielsen Company.

“Nielsen is one of the great names in the information-services industry,” David Calhoun, chairman and CEO of the Nielsen Co. said in a statement released Thursday. “The Nielsen name is a source of pride for everyone in our organization, and it is now the name under which we all will go to market.”

Mr. Calhoun said the company, based in the Netherlands and New York, is becoming more focused on marketing and media information services. In addition to Nielsen Media Research, it owns data companies ACNielsen, Spectra, Homescan, BASES and Claritas.
