Maravich Scores Again

Pistol Pete Maravich, the greatest scorer in college basketball history, is the subject of a six-part series that debuted Tuesday on Fox College Sports.
The series, “Pistol Pete Basketball Diaries,” features photos, newspaper accounts and rare footage of the player known for his flashy moves, shaggy hair and floppy socks. Playing for his father, Press, at Louisiana State University, Maravich averaged 44.2 points per game. He went on to star for the Atlanta Hawks, New Orleans Jazz and Boston Celtics and was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
“Pistol Pete Diaries” is hosted by sportswriter Mark Kriegel, author of the new biography “Pistol: The Life of Pete Maravich,” and former Executive VP of the New Orleans Jazz Barry Mendelson.
“I’ve always been drawn to father-and-son stories,” said Mr. Kriegel. “This one is as compelling and as nuanced as any I know. Pete and Press Maravich changed the game, but their obsessions and ambitions exacted a terrible price. These shows will try to explain an American family’s rise, its apparent fall, and finally, its redemption.”
The series is produced by FCS in conjunction with the Mendelson Entertainment Group and executive produced by Mr. Mendelson.
