Fishy Stuff on Versus

Mar 7, 2007  •  Post A Comment

Even in March, college basketball isn’t for everyone. For those inclined to throw back the Buckeyes, Bruins and Gators, Versus has something you might want to reel in.
The network is calling its major March promotion Big Fish Madness.
Big Fish Madness combines the network’s angling programming with a tournament that pits top gamefish against one another in an elimination tournament where viewers can play along via the Internet.
“Ever since anglers started fishing for sport, the question of what is the toughest gamefish pound-for-pound has been debated,” said Greg Trager, director of field sports programming and production for Versus. “With warmer weather just around the corner and people already in a ‘bracket-filling’ mood, we thought Big Fish Madness would be a fun way for our passionate anglers to see how their opinions shape up against our experts’.”
The experts have set up a field of 32 fish and put them into the kind of bracket familiar to anyone who has played an NCAA tournament pool. Viewers can go on the network’s Web site to make their own selections.
Every few days starting March 14, Steve Porino, host of Big Fish Madness, will review each matchup and filet the field until March 23, when a winner is hooked during a new episode of “The Best & Worst of Tred Barta.”
The entrant with the highest point total wins a 42-inch HDTV. Other prizes include iPods and Guy Harvey paintings of gamefish.
