ABC won the ratings race with three of the top four shows, while NBC’s new Sunday night strategy of programming theatricals got off to a weak start.

“Desperate Housewives” (a 6.6 rating among adults 18 to 49), “Brothers & Sisters” (4.4) and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (3.8) each won their respective hours, according to preliminary Nielsens, and helped ABC tie CBS among total households.

Fox was second in the demo with its animated comedies, including “King of the Hill” (1.7), “The Simpsons” (3.6), “Family Guy” (4.1) and “American Dad” (3.4).

CBS was third with “The Amazing Race: All-Stars” (3.0), a series-low “Cold Case” (2.7) and “Without a Trace” (3.2).

NBC’s recently announced plan to run theatricals on Sunday got off to a rough start with its airing of “Along Came Polly” (1.6) following a two-hour “Dateline” (1.7).

On the CW, “7th Heaven” (1.1) was bracketed by repeats.
