The tune-in on April 18 to see the well-publicized images of Virginia Tech slayer Cho Seung-Hui from the so-called multimedia manifesto he sent to NBC News boosted “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams” into first place by some 90,000 viewers for the week beginning April 16.

According to data from Nielsen Media Research, “Nightly” averaged 8.6 million total viewers, 2.8 million of them in the key news demographic group of 25 to 54, over the course of five nights. ABC’s “World News With Charles Gibson” averaged 8.5 million viewers, 2.5 million in the 25-54 demo. “CBS Evening News With Katie Couric” averaged 6.6 million viewers, 2.2 million of them in the demo.

Take Wednesday out of the equation for both ABC and NBC and “World News” edged out “Nightly” with 8.5 million viewers to 8.3 million, respectively.
