DISCOP Sets Co-Production Conference

The Budapest-based DISCOP television market has unveiled plans for DISCOPRO, a daylong conference and networking event dedicated to co-production opportunities in the region.

DISCOP, which was purchased last year by the National Association of Television Program Executives, is the only TV content market focused on Central and Eastern Europe.

DISCOPRO will feature panels and seminars on topics related to government and privately backed incentive packages available to stimulate pan-European co-productions in the region. Sessions will be designed to offer information on various subsidies, loans and other incentives funded by the European Union and its affiliated programs.

“With the recent expansion of the European Union, the proposed ascension of the Balkans to the EU, a booming [Central and Eastern Europe]-based television industry and the recent revision of the Television Without Frontiers directive, the number of pan-European co-production deals involving Central and Eastern Europe will increase dramatically,” said DISCOP founder/general manager Patrick Jucaud. “There has never been a better time for a conference such as DISCOPRO and we look forward to expanding the program into an annual event.”

DISCOPRO will be held June 19, while DISCOP ’07 runs June 20-22 in Budapest.
