The CNN Center in Atlanta got some backyard breaking news when a man shot a woman just 30 feet from the back door of the CNN.com newsroom, causing a temporary evacuation.

According to a CNN.com story, Turner Broadcasting employee Charles Williams saw the man dragging the woman by her hair one level up from where she was shot. After being told to move out of the way, Mr. Williams ran to get a security guard. When they returned less than a minute later, they heard gunshots downstairs, which turned out to be the street-level lobby area at the northeast corner of the building.

CNN.com writer Brad Lendon was at the scene, saying the man “fired at least two shots in her.”

The gunman then was shot by a Turner security officer.

Both the man and the woman, who reportedly was pregnant, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. The woman, identified as Clara Riddles, 22, was pronounced dead on arrival. The man is said to be in critical condition.

The Atlanta police are calling it a “domestic situation.”
