Food Network Looking for ‘Iron Chef’ Who Can Cut It

Apr 25, 2007  •  Post A Comment

Not just anyone can be an Iron Chef.
The Food Network is searching for someone who can go cleaver to cleaver with Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Masaharu Morimoto and Cat Cora for its show “Search for the Next Iron Chef of America.”
The network’s qualifications are quite specific and demanding.
“Food Network is looking for highly qualified culinary professionals to apply,” the channel said in a statement. “Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of culinary experience, including a minimum of five years at an executive chef level. Each candidate must currently be working in the culinary profession in some capacity. Food Network is looking for a wide range of cuisine styles and, in addition to culinary chops, candidates must have a bold, competitive personality that can captivate audiences.”
“Iron Chef” host Alton Brown will be traveling across the country to assemble an elite group of culinary professionals to compete to join the program.
The contestants will be brought to New York in July, where the Chairman will challenge the contestants to prove why they should be the next Iron Chef. A series of difficult tasks will prove which chefs can take the heat in and outside of Kitchen Stadium. A panel of judges, including current Iron Chefs, will determine the winner, who will take his or her place in Kitchen Stadium and compete on-air in several battles.
“Search for the Next Iron Chef of America” will premiere this fall on Food Network.
“‘Iron Chef America’ celebrates the culinary arts,” said Bruce Seidel, senior VP, program planning and special projects, Food Network. “We’re looking for a new chef who can not only complement our current group of top-notch Iron Chefs, but also bring a unique set of culinary skills and perspective to the Chairman’s table.'”
