Fox’s “American Idol” once again drowned out the Tuesday night competition and provided a strong lead-in for medical drama “House.”

Fox took the lead in adults 18 to 49 and total viewers, according to preliminary Nielsens, with “Idol” dipping slightly to score its lowest Tuesday 18-49 rating in two years (10.0). “House” (8.7) matched last week’s delivery and retained 87 percent of its “Idol” lead-in.

In second place, CBS’s Tuesday lineup was on the low side, with “NCIS” (3.3) and “The Unit” (2.8).

Third-place ABC offered a “Dancing With the Stars” recap (1.8), followed by its hourlong results show (4.1, up slightly from last week). At 10 p.m., “Boston Legal” had an on-par 2.9.

NBC was fourth with “Dateline” (1.7) and repeats.

The CW had a repeat of Gilmore Girls and “Pussycat Dolls” (1.2).
