Sherman Alights at Fuse

Cablevision Systems named Eric Sherman as president of fuse, its music channel.

Mr. Sherman was previously with MTV Networks. He was senior VP and general manager of VH1 Classic, VH1 Soul, VH1 Classic Records and MHD until those positions were eliminated in a corporate reorganization earlier this year.

In the past fuse has positioned itself as the cheeky underdog music channel, taking the occasional publicity shot at MTV, still the top gun in the music television business.

In his new role, Mr. Sherman will be responsible for overseeing fuse’s programming and marketing.

Cablevision is making fuse part of its Madison Square Garden unit.

“We believe that the strength of Madison Square Garden, with its legendary venues, entertainment properties, teams and award-winning television networks, together with the youthful dominance and national reach of fuse, is a powerful combination that strengthens our overall business,” Hank Ratner, vice chairman of Cablevision Systems and Madison Square Garden, said in a statement.
