College sports fans will be able to see every detail of their favorite games when the Big Ten Network launches in HD this August.
The network promises more than 1,000 hours of original HD content within its first year, including the 2007 men’s basketball and football season.
In addition to woman’s basketball and softball, other conference events like gymnastics, soccer and swimming will be shot in hi-def. Big Ten is looking into future HD campus-based series and specials.
“We’re proud and privileged to be partnered with some of the most prestigious institutions in America, and so it’s only natural that we showcase their teams and campuses with the highest quality production,” said Big Ten Network President Mark Silverman. “The Big Ten Network has the opportunity to become an important hub for HD, broadband, mobile and other exciting ways to engage the Big Ten experience, so we’re excited to jump in with both feet right away.”
As previously reported by TelevisionWeek, the network has secured carriage on DirectTV and expects to begin negotiating with cable operators in January.
The Big Ten Network is a 20-year partnership between the Big Ten conference and Fox Cable Networks.
