Crown Media Holdings, owner of The Hallmark Channel, reduced its loss in the first quarter as revenues rose 19 percent.
Crown said its net loss was $40.2 million, or 38 cents a share, compared to $47.1 million, or 45 cents, a year ago. Revenues were $53.6 million up from $45 million.
Crown has been renewing many of its key distribution agreements for the Hallmark Channel this year on what CEO Henry Schleiff called “attractive terms.” Hallmark’s increased its subscriber count 6 percent to 76.2 million, and its subscription revenue was up 20 percent.
Ad revenue was also up 20 percent.
We expect that the momentum of the first quarter will carry us through 2007 to produce a year filled with solid operating achievements,” Mr. Schleiff said.
