Exclusive Podcast: ‘Idol’ Producer Critiques Final Performances

May 24, 2007  •  Post A Comment

In our final “American Idol” Backlot Talk for the season, executive producer Ken Warwick critiques the two finalists.
“Idol” winner Jordin Sparks sang “Broken Wing” during Tuesday night’s episode, and Mr. Warwick backed judge Randy Jackon’s assertion that her performance was better than the original.
“I think it was one of those performances that came over better in the theater than over the air,” Mr. Warwick said. “In the theater, it was fabulous.”
The performance of runner-up Blake Lewis came in for some criticism, with his decision to repeat his earlier performance of a Bon Jovi song.
“I’m so used to him singing that kind of song, I’d have preferred him to do something a bit different,” Mr. Warwick said. “If you’re going to get to the final, you’ve got to get out there winning, and I think he played it a bit too safe.”
