NBC has renewed drama “Friday Night Lights” for the fall season and picked up four pilots for series, sources said.
The network has picked up “Bionic Woman” (NBC Universal Television Studio), “Chuck” (Warner. Bros.), “Journeyman” (20th Century Fox) and “Life” (NBC Universal Television Studio).
“Lights” was arguably the most critically acclaimed new series of the year, but also very low rated. Season to date, “Lights” averaged a 2.3 rating among adults 18 to 49 during its recent Wednesday-night run. Its finale rated a 2.1.
NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly has been an adamant supporter of the show, along with similarly low-rated and renewed comedy “30 Rock,” have been help up as examples of NBC’s strategy to nurture high-quality projects. “Lights” is kept relatively inexpensive due to employing a relatively unknown cast and fast-paced shooting schedule.
“Friday Night Lights” is produced by NBC Universal Television Studio and Imagine Television.
NBC had no comment.
