TelevisionWeek, Playboy Enterprises and Rainbow Media are joining together to support the Cable Positive HIV/AIDs project by sponsoring the 6th Annual POP awards, which recognize outstanding programming about the issue.
“Nothing could be more mainstream than the fight against HIV/AIDs,” Playboy Chair and CEO Christie Hefner said Tuesday at the Cable & Telecommunications Association conference in Las Vegas.
The POP awards will be held June 12 at Rainbow’s IFC Center in New York. Past winners include HBO’s “Angels in America,” Showtime’s “Queer as Folk” and shows from BET and Discovery Health Channel.
At the June 12 event, TelevisionWeek also will be presenting Ms. Hefner with its inaugural HIV/AIDS educational advocate of the year award.
“We are so pleased that a longtime activist such as Christie Hefner will be honored with the first TelevisionWeek HIV/AIDS educational award,” TelevisionWeek publisher and editorial director Chuck Ross said. “There is no more important fight than the fight against HIV/AIDS.”
Cable Positive is a cable industry initiative dedicated to fighting HIV and AIDS that was started in 1992.
