The Apple iPhone will drive adoption of mobile video, according to a new report from Emerging Media Dynamics.
Though the mobile video market still faces hurdles such as competing technology standards and questions regarding business models, the introduction of the iPhone on June 29 will spur broader development in the industry and increase consumer interest.
Emerging Media Dynamics predicts that the number of mobile video devices in the U.S. could increase from 50 million at the end of 2006 to nearly 200 million by the end of 2012. Also, the number of customers purchasing mobile video could grow from 5 million at the end of last year to nearly 80 million by the end of 2012. Revenue from mobile video sales could rise from $180 million last year to $10.2 billion in 2012.
