Hearst Argyle Inks Deal with YouTube

Hearst-Argyle Television became one of the first station groups to strike a deal with YouTube via a partnership to post local TV station content on the video-sharing site starting today.
Under the deal, Hearst-Argyle television stations in five markets—Boston; Manchester, N.H.; Sacramento; Pittsburgh; and Baltimore—will post videos on dedicated YouTube channels. The videos will include news, weather, entertainment and original local content. That will include high school football games, basketball games and local amateur entertainment.
Hearst-Argyle has been focusing on digital media over the last year and recently launched a collection of online videos related to its magazine titles. The TV station effort is the latest initiative by the company to adjust to the changing viewing habits of consumers. The YouTube partnership could also give the stations a leg up in reaching younger viewers who aren’t tuning in on-air at all.
The YouTube channels are: www.youtube.com/wcvbtv, www.youtube.com/wmurtv, www.youtube.com/kcratv, www.youtube.com/wtaetv and www.youtube.com/wbal.
