Veteran Internet, publishing and marketing executive Wenda Harris Millard, has been named to the newly created position of media president of Martha Stewart Living Ominimedia effective July 16.
The announcement, made Sunday by MSLO President and CEO Susan Lyne, said Ms. Millard will resign her position of three years on the MSLO board of directors at the same time.
In this newly-created position, Ms. Millard will oversee MSLO’s media businesses, including publishing, Internet and broadcasting. She will report to Ms. Lyne.
Publishing President Lauren Stanich will work with Ms. Millard through the transition and then assume an advisory role to the company.
“Lauren’s passion for the brand and focus on our customers’ needs have helped to propel MSLO’s tremendous growth, from the launch of a single, unique magazine, to the publishing division we know today with five main titles, special-interest publications and best-selling books,” Ms. Lyne said in Sunday’s announcement. The publishing segment’s revenue was up 25 percent in 2006 over the previous year.
Broadcast President Sheraton Kalouria will continue to oversee broadcast operations, including the syndicated TV show bearing Ms. Stewart’s name and “Martha Stewart Living Radio” on Sirius satellite radio, as well as initiatives on emerging digital platforms. He will continue to report to Ms. Lyne.
Ms. Millard has been chief sales officer for Yahoo! Since 2001. Her previous positions included chief Internet officer at Ziff Davis Media and president of Ziff Davis Internet; and executive VP and a founder of DoubleClick. She had been publisher of Family Circle, when it was the world’s largest-selling women’s magazine and had helped build such titles as Adweek and Working Woman.
“Wenda has a unique combination of in-depth experience in businesses that are key to MSLO and our future growth. She will bring leadership and focus to our expanding media assets, driving further integration and more innovation for our customers and advertisers,” Ms. Lyne said. “She is a seasoned manager and a brilliant marketer, with a track record of delivering strong results. Her appointment speaks to our strategic commitment to Internet expansion, and to maximizing the potential of our consolidated media assets.”
MSLO founder Martha Stewart said, “Wenda is a new media pioneer and entrepreneur, and I have known and admired her for a long time. Her strong grasp and understanding of emerging platforms, combined with her in-depth knowledge of traditional publishing, make her the perfect choice for this new position. … Under Wenda, I expect many new and beneficial developments, including an intensified focus on our Web site, more cross-platform content initiatives and international expansion.”
