CNN Boosts Lane to Senior VP, Editorial

Jul 13, 2007  •  Post A Comment

Twenty-six-year CNN veteran Nancy Lane has been promoted to senior VP of editorial for CNN/U.S.
The newly created position expands the turf she has supervised as news VP for CNN/U.S. to include areas previously managed by Sue Bunda, who earlier in the week was chosen by CNN Worldwide President Jim Walton to be executive VP of content development and strategy.
In an internal memo, CNN/U.S. President Jon Klein said Ms. Lane, who will remain based in Atlanta, will oversee all newsgathering operations, including rapid response to breaking news; in-depth coverage of ongoing stories; enterprise exclusive stories; the affiliate desks; domestic bureau chiefs; guest booking; and the deployment of CNN’s domestic newsgathering resources.
Mr. Klein also used language that smacked of the previous CNN regime, headed by former Time magazine executive Walter Isaacson, when he said he plans in the next few months to create and fill the position of senior VP of current programming “to support our show producers in our story telling, story selection, writing, producing and packaging.” This person also will “enhance our coordination with CNN.com, CNN International and the other CNN Worldwide platforms.”
