Cuban Makes Bid for Cubs

Jul 15, 2007  •  Post A Comment

HD Net co-founder Mark Cuban, who has owned the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks since January 2000, confirmed to the Chicago Tribune last week that he submitted his application to Major League Baseball to purchase the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field from the Tribune Co. The Tribune said Thursday that the Ricketts family, which founded TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., is among potential bidders for the franchise, as is John Canning, head of private-equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners and part-owner of the Milwaukee Brewers. Others thought to be interested in bidding are restaurateur Larry Levy and Chicago business owner Craig Duchossois; Don Levin, owner of the Chicago Wolves minor league hockey team; Chicago attorney Thomas Mandler and businessman Jim Anixter; and a group led by private-equity investor Thomas Begel.

  1. Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
