Dan Patrick Resigns From ESPN

Jul 9, 2007  •  Post A Comment

Longtime ESPN anchor Dan Patrick is leaving the company as of Aug. 17. Mr. Patrick will be free to pursue interests with other media companies.
“I’ve spent a third of my life at ESPN. All my children were born while I was employed here. I feel privileged to have had this opportunity and I have extremely mixed emotions about leaving,” Mr. Patrick said in a statement Monday.
“With that said, I told ESPN that I believe it’s time for me to try something different, something that will also be challenging and rewarding. While I’m not sure what that will be, I am grateful to ESPN for its willingness to allow me to pursue new endeavors.”
Patrick has hosted ESPN Radio’s “Dan Patrick Show” since 1999. He also recently served as host of the NBA studio program on ABC, “NBA Countdown,” and the network’s game broadcasts, including the NBA Finals. He was a “SportsCenter” anchor from 1989-2006, and has written “Outtakes” for ESPN The Magazine.
“Dan has accomplished so much over the past two decades at ESPN, and fans and newsmakers have turned to him for his steady and trusted approach. We wish him the very best,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN executive VP for production.

  1. Hopefully we won’t have to hear from Keith Oberman anymore either.

  2. Goodbye ESPN….Hello, the Price is Right?

  3. Maybe he and Keith will team up on Countdown…

  4. I think a show where Dan just beats the crap out of Keith for 30 minutes–without sound so we wouldn’t have to hear either them–would be the only thing either of them could do to make me watch.

  5. Dan brought realism and substance to the work of sports reporting. I wish him well.

  6. Gee, another bloated ego that won’t be missed. Why can’t both Dan and Keith Oberman just fade away to some third-rate market where they both belong?
Please Lord, spare us from their daily arrogant assaults and rants….enough.

  7. To all of you Keith haters…go back to Fox…and your boy Bill!

  8. It is rather stunning how O’reilly’s minions do his bidding swiftly…

  9. If you dislike Dan Patrick because of perceived arrogance, you are a douche bag. Perhaps you should see somebody about your insecurities. He doesn’t have Tony K’s smarts or Wilbon’s journalisitc acumen, but he asks poignant yet fair questions of his guests. Your beloved ESPN, in part, was built upon his back. You don’t have to love him; but, if you hate him, you are irrational and have no credibility. So, don’t bother anyone with your opinions.

  10. Way to focus and straight to your point, i love it. Keep up the work people. Dont let anyone stop us bloggers.
