CBS News Taps Reid as Correspondent

Chip Reid, an 11-year veteran of NBC News, is moving to CBS News as its Capitol Hill correspondent.
Mr. Reid’s hire, effective Sept. 4, means Sharyl Attkisson becomes a Washington, D.C.-based investigative correspondent after a year and a half covering the Hill.
The law-trained Mr. Reid was a Senate Judiciary Committee counsel in the early 1980s and a D.C.-based lobbying specialist for a law firm before covering the nation’s capital for ABC-affiliated WJLA-TV and Fox-owned WTTG-TV. In 1996, he joined NBC News, where his assignments have taken him from Washington and Los Angeles to the Middle East and Ground Zero and back to Capitol Hill as correspondent.
“Chip’s experience is deep and broad, and his journalism is first-rate,” CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus said in Monday’s announcement. “Chip strengthens an already strong Washington bureau for CBS News.
“Sharyl brought her hard-nosed reporting and inside-the-Beltway expertise to the Hill and made our coverage significantly stronger,” Mr. McManus said, “but her passion always has been and always will be investigative work. I’m happy for her—and for CBS News—that she will be able to pursue those important stories again; our broadcasts and viewers will be greatly served by this move.”
