Warner HD Executive Leaves
Steve Nickerson, Warner Home Video’s senior VP of worldwide high definition, will be leaving the company to pursue other interests at the end of September, according to TVPredictions.com. Mr. Nickerson has supported the dual-format approach in the ongoing high-def battle, so his exit raised questions as to whether Warner may change its approach by choosing one format, the article said. However, Warner Home Video spokesman Jim Noonan said Mr. Nickerson’s departure had nothing to do with a change in strategy.
Baseball Gets Bigger
Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks are planning to install a new high-definition Jumbotron, according to the Associated Press. The 144-foot-wide, 55-foot-high board will be the largest in pro sports, the club said. The AP said the screen will be 900 square feet larger than the current biggest board, located at Atlanta’s Turner Field. It will cost an estimated $10 million to $12 million and will be paid for by Maricopa County, Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall said.

The show features 10 celebrities paired up with professional ballroom dancers, with a team eliminated each week by a combination of audience voting and on-air judging. “Dancing” is set to return Sept. 24.
