VIDEO: Fox’s ‘Anchorwoman’ Puts Hollywood Fluff into TV Journalism

Anchorwoman“Anchorwoman,” the new Fox reality show that collides real TV journalism with big blond gobs of Hollywood fluff, makes its debut tonight, and here’s the news: It’s really bad.
The program stars Lauren Jones, an aspiring actress and former swimsuit model and WWE diva. Here, she’s recruited to an early evening anchor position by the desperate general manager of a ratings-challenged CBS affiliate station in Tyler, Texas.
The show, which has already drawn scathing criticism from the national Society of Professional Journalists, follows the conflicts between the working journalists and the Paris Hilton-like bimbo they are forced to integrate into their daily news operations.
In this video interview, Ad Age TV Editor Brian Steinberg predicts a large audience for this first episode and a rapid drop off after that.

  1. I don’t know what those “Professional” journalists are complaining about. Don’t they look at TV at all? Every station in Southern California, at least, has all their newscasts loaded with beautiful young women, usually paired with a whiney-voiced, gramatically-challenged ‘pretty boy.’
Lowell Thomas and his compatriots must be turning over in their graves at the sad plight of TV news today.

  2. This just points out the complete irrelevancy of TV news. It’s been heading this way for a very long time. Who cares? Who’s watching? Certainly not I. Thank God for news/talk radio. At least looks don’t count there. I never understood why you have to look at someone as they read you the paper.

  3. Well, I tried to watch this show, but after about ten minutes of eyeball-pulling whip pans and fast cuts, all I saw was a meaningless melange of totally confusing YouTube quality video. So long, ‘Anchorwoman.’ So long, Tyler Texas; although you did get your ten minutes of ‘fame.’
Incidentally, the required minority in a supervisory position duly noted.

  4. WELL,WELL,WELL, That sure did not last long it’s already long gone Dave-Detroit

  5. Yes I see it’s gone after one (1) episode.
    A fitting number!

  6. Thank you for a great post

  7. I love the expression. Everyone needs to express there own opinion and feel free to hear others. Keep it up 🙂

  8. Can I just say what a comfort toward hit upon a star who essentially knows what theyre discussion about on top of the internet. You unquestionably recognize how toward bring an issue to glow and build it significant. Additional people must to read this plus understand this side of the story. I cant consider youre not more popular because you definitely contain the gift.
