ABC Restructures ‘World News’ Staff Under Banner

The staffs of weekday and weekend broadcasts of ABC’s “World News” will be combined under “World News With Charles Gibson” executive producer Jon Banner and senior producer Vinnie Malhotra, who will continue as executive producer of weekend editions of “World News.”
ABC News President David Westin announced the move internally Wednesday.
An ABC News spokeswoman said no staff reductions are planned as part of the restructuring.
“We’re doing this first and foremost to ensure that we can concentrate all the reporting assets available on these essential newscasts. Stories pursued during the week can be carried through on the weekend, and vice versa,” Mr. Westin said. “By putting the two staffs together, we’ll eliminate duplication and increase clarity. It will also provide an opportunity to maximize and expand the digital components of the broadcasts and it should help streamline the story selection and pitching process.”
Mr. Banner and Mr. Malhotra report to senior VP of worldwide newsgathering Paul Slavin.
