AOL Video to Carry ABC Shows

Sep 20, 2007  •  Post A Comment

ABC is reaching beyond its Web site and iTunes with a deal to carry its prime-time shows on AOL Video. The agreement marks the first time ABC has offered its shows on an online portal. The deal also calls for ABC to syndicate its player to AOL Video.
ABC has been cautious in striking online syndication deals because it has wanted to ensure the consumer experience on other sites matches that of the ABC home page. ABC.com’s player has been well-regarded in the industry for style and ease of use and has won an Emmy. On AOL’s site, the ABC player will be co-branded with an “ABC.com on AOL” message along with the local ABC affiliate station’s ID based on the user’s geographic location.
ABC’s prime-time line-up goes live today at video.aol.com. Next week, ABC will adds its new fall schedule of shows. Episodes will be available the day after they premiere on air. The episodes will be ad supported.
Under the deal, ABC and AOL will also offer short-form programming later this year using a short-form embedded player.
