NBC Orders Fifth Season of ‘Biggest Loser’

NBC has ordered a fifth season of its weight-loss reality series “The Biggest Loser,” with a new twist, the network announced Monday.
“‘The Biggest Loser’ continues to be a top performer and important franchise for NBC, and season four is already off to a great start,” said Craig Plestis, executive VP of alternative programming, development and specials for NBC Entertainment. “We look forward to the fifth cycle of the show, and continuing to entertain and inspire viewers all over the country as they watch these remarkable contestants achieve life-changing results.”
Season five, which is set to film this fall, will shake things up by having teams of two compete against each other, rather than individuals. In addition, the teams will be comprised of loved ones, co-workers or best friends so that each team has a special bond, the network said.
The show, which challenges overweight contestants to lose weight naturally while competing for a $250,000 grand prize, premiered its fourth season Sept. 11 with a 3.1 rating in adults 18-49.
“The Biggest Loser” is a production of Reveille, 25/7 Productions and 3 Ball Productions.
