Cable outlet Versus has completed a deal with World Extreme Cagefighting to extend an exclusive partnership between the two companies. The deal will bring to the network 15 additional live WEC events and 20 episodes of “WEC WrekCage,” which features a mix of the top matches from WEC events never before seen on television and Versus’ best live events.
“We are very excited to announce the extension of our partnership with World Extreme Cagefighting, the premier brand in mixed martial arts,” said Marc Fein, senior VP of programming and production, Versus. “The WEC has tremendous success in putting on top-quality mixed martial arts events, which consistently deliver a solid television viewing audience. The quality of the fights and fighters in the WEC sets them apart from the competition—they’re faster, fiercer, they fight in a smaller cage and they’re only on Versus.”
The channel first announced the addition of WEC to the network’s lineup of competitive sports in January and has since aired three live fights and six premiere episodes of “WEC WrekCage” since its debut in June.
The next live fight to run on Versus will air Dec. 12, featuring featherweight champion Urijah Faber (19-1-0) as he defends his title against Jeff Curran (16-6-1). Additional fights on the card will be announced as information becomes available.
“We are thrilled about extending our relationship with Versus, a decision which allows us to keep doing what we started in 2007—bringing the best fights and best fighters into the homes of millions of viewers,” said Peter Dropick, VP of operations and production for WEC. “Fight fans will be pleased to know that World Extreme Cagefighting will continue to put on the most exciting mixed martial arts events in the world and Versus will continue to be the home of the WEC.”
