C-Span President-CEO Brian Lamb to Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

Oct 30, 2007  •  Post A Comment

President Bush is naming C-Span President-CEO Brian P. Lamb as one of eight recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Mr. Lamb joins economist Gary S. Becker, Cuban activist and prisoner Oscar Elias Biscet, geneticist Francis S. Collins, civil rights leader Benjamin L. Hooks, former congressman Henry Hyde, author Harper Lee and Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in being honored at the White House on Nov. 5.
In its statement announcing the awards, the White House said Mr. Lamb was being honored because he “has elevated America’s public debate and helped open up our government to citizens across the nation. His dedication to a transparent political system and the free flow of ideas has enriched and strengthened our democracy.”
Mr. Lamb founded C-Span in 1979 with the cable industry.

  1. It’s about time Briam Lamb got a high honor. There are few in the industry who deserve to kiss his shoes.

  2. Without question, Brian Lamb is the greatest journalist since Joseph Pulitzer. Were the Founding Fathers to return for a day, they would, in unison, give him a standing ovation. He is to American participatory government what Edison was to science. Without C-SPAN, the Nixons, Agnews, McCarthys, Roves and Cheneys would have installed a unitary executive dictatorship long, long ago. Live long and prosper, Brian Lamb. All America is in your debt.

  3. Brian’s dedication to bringing the power of democracy into the living room is unparalled. There is no political slant, no hidden agenda to C-SPAN and all it represents: Just transparency. This is a calling of the highest order and he leads a team that does it gracefully. Congratulations to Brian and the team he leads.
