Rebecca Campbell has been promoted to president and general manager of ABC-owned flagship station WABC-TV in New York, after a successful run at sister station WPVI-TV in Philadelphia.
Ms. Campbell joined the Philly station in 1997 as program director, after having worked at several Pennsylvania stations. In 2003, she was named president and general manager at WPVI.
Both WPVI and WABC are the highest-rated stations from sign-on to sign-off in their respective markets.
WABC-TV recently became the revenue market-share leader, breaking WNBC-TV’s streak, under Ms. Campbell’s predecessor, Dave Davis. Mr. Davis recently was named executive VP of ABC News.
Ms. Campbell’s appointment, effective immediately, was announced Tuesday by ABC Television Stations Group President Walter Liss.
“Rebecca Campbell has done a sensational job as president and general manager at WPVI-TV in Philadelphia,” Mr. Liss said. “Her outstanding leadership skills and knowledge of the business make her ideally suited for the top post at WABC-TV in New York.”
Ms. Campbell’s new duties include responsibility for WABC and all of its ancillary businesses, including three additional digital TV channels; 7online.com, the station’s Web site; and the syndicated hit talk show “Live With Regis and Kelly,” which is produced by the station.

  4. Congratulaions on your new post.I am sorry that I am writng to complain about Jimmy Kimmel on Music Awards Show. He made a comment that backstage he talked to his 14 year old son. Claims the son said He would give up his virginty for the following female artists. I think this was inappropriate and cannot believe he would make that comment .It was not funny. Perhaps in this world of permissiveness these comments are now aceptable by WABC TV. Think there should be some more thought to this attitude. The music awards show and music was wonderful othewise.

  5. WABC-TV here in Pennsylvania has some of my favorite shows Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Men in Trees, Brother’s & Sister’s…these shows each had a place on Sunday or Thursday nights. Not being a TV person it was quite by accident that I began watching and I got “hooked” on these shows in 2007.
Please know I am furious, I found I am lucky if I can see more than reruns if they are on at all when scheduled.
In this day and age where we have more people graduating colleges, universities each year…Do you think ABC TV could hire people that can produce a show that could run its course a full year? Not three good shows and a rerun or promises of something really great in only God knows when???
As a Senior no longer working, with Cable Fees/Rates going up systematically…I really feel I should be able to have consistent entertainment.
As it is it is like no one knows what they are doing!! My son in his Freshman year of high school did a better job at the studio making certain everything went smoothly…
What is going on….what is happening all brains can’t be fried. It would be nice too if ABC could ask the viewers what they like??
Wouldn’t announcing that on given dates you will be showing pilot shows…and not interrupt a scheduled show without announcement be a considerat thing to do?
In your new position as EXEC PRESIDENT will any of these problems be able to be rectified? I would be ever grateful as would many of my friends and family.Thank you. Polly

  6. Eva Longoria who plays in Desperate Housewives is a pig with lipstick. Classless with her un american comments. Will never watch the show.
