“Family Guy,” the series that was canceled but wouldn’t die, is celebrating its 100th episode on Fox with a special.
The half-hour tribute, “The ‘Family Guy’ 100th Episode Special,” will air Nov. 4 at 8:30 p.m. and show off some of the animated series’ funniest moments, satirical spoofs and musical numbers.
The special will be followed by the animated show’s actual 100th episode, which is called “Stewie Kills Lois.”
On that night, “King of the Hill” is being preempted for the special.
“Family Guy” originally launched on Fox after the 1999 Super Bowl and was canceled by the network after its third season. The show returned to TV when it was picked up by Cartoon Network as part of the cable channel’s Adult Swim late-night block in 2003. It was a hit with the network’s young male viewers.
The show also thrived in the DVD market, selling more than 2 million units in 2003, prompting Fox to revive the show and it resumed production the following year, airing as part of Fox’s animation block on Sunday nights.
“Family Guy” revolves around the Griffin family, headed by slow-witted Peter Griffin. The rest of the family is Peter’s wife, Lois, children Chris, Meg and Stewie and their dog, Brian.
Creator Seth MacFarlane does many of the voices on the show, including Peter’s. Celebrities including Mila Kunis, Seth Green and Patrick Warburton have provided voices as well.
In the 100th episode, Lois and Peter go on a cruise, leaving Stewie and the family behind. When Stewie gets upset with Lois for leaving him at home, he vows to carry out a diabolical plan. When Brian challenges him to actually do it, Stewie stows away on the ship, finds Lois and … you’ll have to tune in to see how it ends.
Mr. MacFarlane, David A. Goodman, Chris Sheridan and Danny Smith are the executive producers of “Family Guy,” which is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.
