Former Cox Communications CEO James O. Robbins died Wednesday night of cancer. He was 65.
Under Mr. Robbins, Cox became one of the nation’s biggest cable operators. He helped move it into the high-speed Internet and telephone businesses, which proved to be successful ventures.
Mr. Robbins joined Cox as vice president in 1983 in New York. He became president of the company in 1985 and CEO in 1995, when the company went public. He retired in 2005.
“On behalf of all of us at NCTA, we express our deepest sympathies to Jim’s family and many friends,” NCTA President and CEO Kyle McSlarrow said in a statement Thursday morning. “Jim was a relentlessly positive force in the cable industry for nearly four decades and touched the lives of tens of thousands of cable employees. His commitment to excellence benefited every Cox customer and community and served as an inspiration to the entire industry. He served with distinction as one of the industry’s great ambassadors to policymakers at all levels of government. We will deeply miss his humor, compassion and guidance.”

Integrity, principles, witty, a man!
That is what I remember most about Jim. I remember how much he impacted others about family. On a Sunday before a Cox Conference, some GM’s were standing around talking about the flights in and one GM said, I just came from my daughters State Soccer match. Jim said, “Did they win?” Person said yes and they have to play later today in the winners bracket.” Jim kindly reminded this person, “Your place should have been at your daughters game. This meeting will go on for years to come, you will never get to see the State Final again.”
That was Jim, family is important.
He also said, “You should always be able to look in the mirror and say you did the right thing!” That was Jim, integrity. He will be missed.
Many black sun worshipers saw Robbins. God has made His holy sunlight discriminate between blacks and whites. Whites burn. Now, most blacks know how to use ultraviolet light. It is the fire of the 2nd rapture of God.
