‘Heroes’ Repurposed to Mojo

Oct 18, 2007  •  Post A Comment

Mojo, the high-definition network geared toward upscale men, has secured the off-network rights to NBC’s sci-fi hit “Heroes.”
The deal, through NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution, gives both Mojo and the G4 network the rights to repurpose current episodes of the series the same week they debut on NBC, starting the week of Oct. 29.
Mojo will air the show every Wednesday at 11 p.m. EST and every Thursday at 8 p.m. EST.
The deal covers the first six seasons of the series. The entire library will be available to both networks to strip on a Monday-through-Friday basis in 2010.
This is the first off-net acquisition for Mojo, which usually airs original programming, sports, concerts and other big events in high-def. Comcast has ownership participation in both Mojo parent company iN Demand and G4.
Robert D. Jacobson, president and CEO of iN Demand Networks, sees adding “Heroes” as a way to attract new viewers to the network.
“The great thing about doing this is the built-in awareness and brand recognition,” he said. “It will go a long way toward helping bring new people to the channel to sample what we’re doing.”
The Thursday time slot is important to the network because its original series “Pressure Cook,” starring former “Hell’s Kitchen” contestant Ralph Pagano, airs directly after “Heroes,” Mr. Jacobson said.
Mojo will welcome “Heroes” Nov. 1 by offering the first six episodes of season two. In addition, the network plans to have a season-one “Heroes” marathon sometime during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Mr. Jacobson said the show’s mass appeal will help reach the network’s target 18 to 34 male demographic as well as older men.
Unlike G4, Mojo will not offer added features such as a post-show to its “Heroes” programming.
“The bonus for people will be being able to stick around to see our other shows,” Mr. Jacobson said.
Mr. Jacobson said there are no current plans to acquire any more off-net programming and that he remains anxious to see how this “Heroes” experiment works.
Corrects Mojo air time at 1:43 p.m.
