HD programming picks for Oct. 4-10: “30 Rock,” “Blood Diamond,” “Life Is Wild,” John Wayne double bill

  • “30 Rock” (NBC HD). Thursday, Oct. 4, 8:30 p.m.: Jack tells Liz she’s not over Floyd, whom she broke up with last season after he moved to Cleveland. Jack also has a plan to insert “Seinfeld” footage into the network’s current shows. Jerry Seinfeld plays himself in the second-season premiere.
  • “Blood Diamond” (HBO HD). Saturday, Oct. 6, 9 p.m.: Leonardo DiCaprio earned an Oscar nomination last year for his performance as a diamond smuggler in the midst of Sierra Leone’s bloody civil war in 1999.
  • “Life Is Wild” (The CW HD). Sunday, Oct. 7, 8 p.m.: The series premieres with teen queen Katie struggling to adjust to her family’s drastic move from New York City to a South Africa game reserve, where her veterinarian father hopes to give his blended but troubled clan a chance to change their lives for the better.
  • “Rio Lobo” and “Big Jake” (HDNet). Sunday, Oct. 7, 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET: It’s a classic John Wayne double-header, with Wayne starring as Col. Cord McNally searching for the traitor who caused the defeat of his unit during the Civil War in “Rio Lobo” and as Jake McCandles unleashing his own brand of Old West justice against bandits who have kidnapped his son in “Big Jake.”
