‘This Week’ Makes Move to Newseum Studio in 2008

“This Week With George Stephanopoulos” is scheduled to become a capital destination television experience early in 2008 when it moves into a studio at the Newseum that is scheduled to be completed on Pennsylvania Avenue between the White House and the U.S. Capitol.
The museum dedicated to the history of journalism will include state-of-the-art broadcast facilities that allow visitors a peek behind the scenes of TV news broadcasting.
“This Week,” which originates live from Washington at 9 a.m. ET each Sunday, will be visible from a giant monitor in the atrium of the glass-walled facility. Other viewing angles will allow visitors to see what home viewers can’t, in much the same way “Good Morning America” offers different views of the program on its studio premises at Times Square in Manhattan.
“This Week,” which finished the third quarter as the second-place Sunday newsmaker show behind NBC’s “Meet the Press With Tim Russert,” will continue to occupy its work space at the ABC News bureau on DeSales Street; the control room function will be at the Newseum.
The Newseum-ABC News partnership is “a marriage of the great journalism George and his program practice every week with a museum celebrating what journalism means to this country,” ABC News President David Westin said in the announcement Monday. “And nothing could be more perfect than for a news program focusing on the important public policy questions of our day to originate from this wonderful new building on Pennsylvania Avenue in the heart of where those questions are being decided.”
