The third week of the season for most of syndication, the week ended Sept. 30, saw a number of talk shows and magazines score solid outings, according to Nielsen Media Research.
On the talk show circuit, three strips showed growth. “Live With Regis and Kelly” rose 3 percent to a 3.1 national rating, “Rachael Ray” grew 6 percent to a 1.9 and “Martha Stewart” rose 11 percent to a 1.0. Meanwhile, the distance between category leaders “Oprah Winfrey” and “Dr. Phil” grew smaller, with “Oprah” dipping 5 percent to a 5.4 while “Dr. Phil” held even at a 4.5, for a difference of just under a point between the two.
Among rookies, NBCU’s “Steve Wilkos” dropped a tenth of a point to a 0.8 score, tying Twentieth’s “Morning Show With Mike and Juliet,” Sony’s “Judge David Young” and Program Partners’ “Merv Griffin’s Crosswords,” all unchanged for the week. Radar’s court show “Jury Duty” hit the charts for the first time at a 0.2 score. Twentieth’s game show “Temptation” has been held back for the third straight week for reprocessing by Nielsen.
“TMZ” led the way among the freshman crowd with its first official listing from Nielsen after being reprocessed for the show’s first two weeks on the air. The series entered the charts at a 1.7.
Off-net sitcoms saw rookie “Family Guy” fall back into second place after taking the lead from “Everybody Loves Raymond” last week, falling 12 percent to a 3.7, compared to “Raymond’s” 3.9. Fellow rookie “Two and a Half Men” was right behind, up 9 percent from week two to a 3.6 rating, tying with “Seinfeld” for third place.

  1. What do they mean they held the sahow Temptation back from Nielsen ratyings processing for the third straight week? How could they not know what ratings a show has for three weeks in a row?
Has the showe been on, or do they mean it hadn’t even been on yet and Nielsen has to figure out how to deal with it? I don’t get it.

  2. Sorry about not using spell check-so embarassing…
