Digital Dealmakers: Jeff Crigler

The player: Jeff Crigler, CEO of Voxant in Reston, Va.
The play: Voxant is an online marketplace that syndicates news videos across the Internet. Mr. Crigler believes that as TV stations lose traditional viewership, they will not be able to offset that loss on their own Web sites, so they will need to syndicate videos across the Web. “If you can’t get the eyeballs to come to the content, you need to get the content to the eyeballs,” Mr. Crigler said. “We aggregate content from the traditional news providers.”
The pitch: Voxant’s service ingests video content from various news sources, then offers those clips to Web sites in Voxant’s online network. Those sites then embed the videos along with ads provided by Voxant. The ad-supported service is free to the user. The Voxant technology pairs content with relevant ads.
In the mix: Voxant works with more than 250 licensed content providers and distributes videos, articles and images to more than 15,000 Web sites. Voxant’s news clients include CBS, the Associated Press, Reuters, the Wall Street Journal, MTV News, Getty Images and the National Hockey League. Web sites that publish content from those news sources include Huffington Post, NewsMax, WhatsNewHollywoodTV, Digital Trends, AskPatty.com, the Sports Network and Hockey Buzz.
